Much of Dr Giaimo's practice involves diagnosing and treating patient's with lung cancer.

There are a number of risk factors for the development of lung cancer including -

  • Cigarette Smoking
  • Radiation Therapy
  • Environmental Toxins
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • HIV Infection
  • Genetic Factors
  • Dietary Factors

Most often the diagnosis of lung cancer is found only after the following symptoms are researched:

  • cough
  • hemoptysis
  • chest pain
  • dyspnea
  • hoarseness
  • pleural involvement

as screening for lung cancer has not been widely used until recently because chest radiography and sputum cytology had not been shown to reduce mortality from lung cancer.

If you would like to learn more about risk factors or if you have been diagnosed with lung cancer and have questions a good source for answers is The American Lung Association.
